Seeing a firefly for the first time as a child leaves a stamp on your consciousness. It’s a spark of pure wonder that stays with you for life. But as we grow, the noise of a busy world crowds out that magic. We’ve created environments where these delicate creatures can no longer exist and we’ve lost the stillness to notice them.

Nature has over 2,000 species of fireflies, each with its own unique language of light. It’s a sacred mating ritual that only happens for a brief moment each year.

To honor this, we chose the Photinus Carolinus and recreated its pulse to the millisecond. We weren’t looking for a stylization; we wanted the truth. Our goal was to use technology to reawaken that childhood awe—to create a space where joy can breathe again.

When we premiered this at Sofia Lights 2022, something transcendent happened. Real fireflies emerged from the trees and began to dance in perfect rhythm with our installation. At that moment, the art and the living world became one.

It was a reminder that when we create the right frequency, the magic returns.
